12/12/22 St. Emilion France

Greetings from beautiful, but cold and wet St. Emilion, France. We’ve been very, very lucky to dodge most of Europes bad weather, but today, the weather finally caught up to us. Cold and driving rain/sleet! So, we thought we’d take a quick tour of St. Emilion, our home base.
St. Emilion is a very small village with less than 2,000 residents. It’s main function is selling wine to tourists.

This is one of the last remaining segments of the original town wall.

La Tour Du Roy, the Kings Keep. Possibly a lookout tower?
La Porte Brunet, Brunet Gate. The last remaining gate to the city.
A reconstruction of an 8th century washing/laundry site.
Beauty everywhere. They’re really step, with cobblestones, my favorite. They call these Tertres.
Hiking trains surrounding the village. Hiking through vineyards, even I’ll do that!
WW1 monument. Every village or city in France has this!
Plaza below the city’s clock tower. Its winter, most restaurants and cafes are closed.

These pictures were taken throughout the last week when it was sunny and cold. St. Emilion has a long religious history. The monks actually expanded the wine business.

Beautiful and very relaxing.

Ok, off to Uzes, in southern France, on Thursday. Hoping for sun 👍

Au revoir and Happy Holidays! 😎
