11/30/22 Valencia Spain

View from our balcony in historic old town Valencia!

Greetings from beautiful Valencia Spain.

Plaza de La Virgen, Valencia

Long drive yesterday from Malaga to Valencia, seven hours in total. We are staying in the Historic Central area, so we had to park the trusty Peugeot underground a few blocks away.

Valencia is a large City, 1.7 million inhabitants. It was founded by the Romans in 300 BC or so. Valencia was a very important seaport in the Mediterranean until the 1500’s when Cadiz, on the Atlantic, proved faster to get to the New World. It was taken over by Muslims early on, then the crusaders came with wars throughout the centuries. Then the Black Plague came. In time, silk manufacturing was their main business and then agriculture came with addition of irrigation water. Valencia become an important produce and fruit growing area. That’s correct, Valencia oranges came from this area.

I always know when I’m in for a long day, when tour guide Cindy says “only one day in Valencia, lots to see, get ready”!🥵

Walking tour Cindy says, but the action is all close by as we are centrally located. Here we go.

Entrance Central Market Valencia
Panorama shot, Central Market, unbelievably beautiful!
Inside the Market is huge and so beautiful, keep looking up, unbelievable design.
Dozens and dozens of unbelievably beautiful fresh produce booths. Remember, we’re in the heart of Europes produce growing area.
In a county that loves Ham, I call this guy the “King of Ham”. Unbelievably beautiful.
Look up, look everywhere.
That’s a ceiling!
Wow!
Yes those are snails, escargot 🧐
Spanish Hams everywhere.
Now, we move to the seafood area.
Wow, is all I can say.
Ok, enough food, walking tour.

What’s a city in Spain without a Bullring?
The train station. We’re taking the Metro to the beach. Metro is here also.
Easy, clean, safe Metro. Remember, 1.6 million live here.
Huge beach in Valencia.
Why did we come to the beach? Sangria 😎
Calamari
Then the topper, Paella!
It was “Spectacular”!
One last food court. This was the train station, back in the day.
Beautiful space, full of restaurants and bars, open till 3 AM

Ok, 25,000 steps later, we call it a day. Beautiful city, easy to get around in and fantastic little Airbnb! Long day tomorrow, nine hours or so. Moving just outside Bordeaux, France.

That ends our time in Spain. Really, really enjoyed every bit of the Spanish experience!

Might need to come back😎

Ok, one last time, Adios Amigos

  2. Spent some time in Spain earlier this year. Segovia, Malaga, Granada, Madrid and Gibraltar (not Spain but next to it). Beautiful country. Malaga and Ronda were featured on recent episodes of The Amazing Race.
