11/05/22 Cadiz Spain

Greetings from beautiful Cadiz Spain
I’ll bet your wondering where the heck is Cadiz, Spain? It’s in the southwestern part of Spain. Right by Gibraltar, and close to Africa.
Cadiz is one of the oldest continuously inhabited city’s in Europe. It was founded by the Phoenicians in the 13th century BC. That’s old. As you can see it was an island with a harbor back in the day. Now it’s connected to the mainland by jetty’s and bridges. It’s still a busy, busy harbor.
Bridge we drove into Cadiz on
Beautiful drive from Salamanca to Cadiz, six easy hours on the freeway, and NO TOLLS
Throughout Spain, driving along you see these huge black bulls! There easily 3 story’s high, made of steel. Like a billboard of Spain, we love seeing them.
Our Airbnb is 1 1/2 blocks from the sea! Great location, great space just limited view. Let’s walk around.
As you can see, it’s still warm here, mid 70’s and very tropical. It’s a vacation spot for Spain and also Brits, who have an ex-pat community here.
I wish I could photograph the huge Banyan trees. They’re the width of a block and so beautiful!
Forts protected the city which took in trade from the Americans, South, North and Central until the late 1700’s, That’s a lots of $$$$$$
It’s a very, very clean and well maintained city, built again out of sandstone!
Bars and restaurants down every alley. Spanish homes are very small, with no patios or yards so they meet at restaurants and bars.
Ok, it’s Saturday let’s walk to the Mercado Centro, one of Europe’s best seafood markets. But first, it’s a churro stand, 3 in fact😎
Line for fresh churros 😎
Ok, into Mercado Centro. We spent a couple of hours here in 2019, where I fell deeply in love. This is one of the reasons we returned.
The center of the market is all seafood, hold on…your socks are going to be blown off.
Ok, after all that, I’m buying shrimp and cooking. New Orleans style boiled shrimp, and shrimp sautéed with onions and Anaheim chilis. Yes, it true, we hauled shrimp boil all the way here from Idaho for this.
Ok, I don’t know about you, but a little nap on the beach sounds perfecto 😎

We’re here for 11 days, with several side trips planned. The Trusty Peugeot is in a car park, ascended by an elevator, so a little different taking it in and out. Thank goodness tour guide Cindy is the driver. Talk with you later.

  2. Simply amazing! The seafood display is like no other I have ever seen – the presentation is an art in itself!
