1022/22 La Spezia Italy

Greetings from beautiful Moneglia Italy. Well , actually it’s 70 degrees with 90% humidity as it’s tried to rain on and off the last two days.

Moneglia from the top of one of the many hills.
Fortezza di Monleone, now used for special events and weddings.

So, as we discussed, we use the train to travel around this area. It’s much simpler as parking is a problem here.

Tour guide Cindy says let’s go to market day in La Spezia. It’s a 45 minute train ride, ok off we go. Train travel is very inexpensive and so much easier than driving roads through tunnels built in 1900 for trains.

I love seeing all the scooters lined up at the train station. I would definitely own one if we lived here😜
La Spezia Food Market. It’s basically a permanent market open 6 days a week. We love to visit the local markets, especially in the warmer areas where fresh produce is available all year.

Let’s take a tour of La Spezia’s beautiful markets

Fungi
Egg plant, a staple in Italian life.
As are artichokes
Fresh flowers
Fall in Italy
Here’s an idea for my next career, bake rolls in the garage, take them fresh to the market 🙃
Here we go! Huge market, it’s trying to rain.
Fish lady, Italians love anchovies and sardines. Me, not so much😳
Crying Cockles and mussels alive, alive oh!
Lots of people don’t know that Italy as a country was only unified as a country in 1861. This is Giuseppe Garibaldi, one of the leaders of the Italian unification wars. The wars were fought against mainly the French and Napoleon. We can thank General Garibaldi in part for the Louisiana Land purchase. As he helped to bankrupt France.
La Spezia has a large port and is a very important area for northern Italy.
Ok, let’s talk about something very important to me, FOOD in Italy.

Italians love food, above is an example of a Bar. Italians love “the bar”. Coffee and a light snack for breakfast, a light lunch with wine and then a drink and socializing into the night. It’s their home away from home. This is where the Starbucks idea was born for Howard Schultz.

The deli, this is it, my heaven. Meats, cheese, wine, bread ,dessert. It’s got it all 👍
Patisserie shops. These are the high end desert shops where you also get coffee. A little high end for me✔️
Breakfast, lunch or dinner!
And last but not least, the Focacceria! This is a combination of bakery, pizzeria and breakfast spot. This is fast food in Italy, no McDonald’s, stop in, get a slice and your out the door.
It’s wonderful here on the Mediterranean, love the plant life. So different than Idaho.
Quick tour up to the Castello San Giorgio.
Ok, back home for the patio life. We’re going to take Sunday off and stay home and catch up. Busy two weeks so far with more to come
Ciao, Ciao, Ciao
