12/18/22 Uzes Saturday Market
Greetings from beautiful and cold Uzes, France Uzes is famous for its Saturday market. It’s open year round and everything in the world is sold on the streets, squares and alleys of beautiful Uzes. Let’s take a walk through the city. The vendors setup every Saturday in a matter of an hour or so, and then take it all down every Saturday afternoon. Amazing!Fresh, beautiful produce in December! You know we’re buying our weekly needs. This guy is frying Eggplants and selling them so you can make eggplant parmigiana 😎Fresh pasta? The amount of fresh food is stupendous. New Orleans style shrimp? Or, I guess they’d say “French style”.Fresh seafood section of the market! Now that’s a paella! 😜This bakery features sliced breads, very heavy large loafs you can buy a slice from. Look at the people, they love their breads.Roasted chicken. Note the potatoes in the bottom, roasting in the chicken fat.✔️The queue is always long at the chicken stand. My bros selling sausages on the corner. It’s cold, how about a little pick me up?👍Can’t be in France without snails, can we?🤔Around the city, tables selling anything you want. Need a new charcuterie board? These are small Christmas trees made from chocolate rounds and then decorated with nuts and goodies. Unbelievably beautiful.Ok, this is the queue for my favorite bread bakery in the word. From the minute they open, until they close, there’s a line out the door.Simple, basic shop, just wonderful, wonderful bread! And, here’s an example. Crispy, soft on the inside, just the perfect baguette.€1.10 per loaf, reasonably priced. The city’s square, filled with vendors on market day. We wandered for hours looking at people and stuff. During the busy times of the year, over 40,000 people visit the market on Saturday. It’s fantastic and very, very well known in the south of France.
Ok, road trip today to Pont de Gard, and then the World Cup finals, France vs Argentina. I’m going with Argentina. I’ll just be quiet about it here.
What a market, what an experience, amazing to think in these days of mega supermarkets and industrial food distribution in the US that market day still exists in a quant small French town . You are really enjoying the good life at this moment in time, keep it up
