12/17/22 Uzes France
La Cathedrale Saint Theodorit with the tower called La Tour Fenestrelle in downtown Uzes, France.
Greetings from beautiful, but cold, Uzes, France. It’s 32 degrees at night! You’re probably wondering where Uzes is located?
Here’s Uzes location on the map. It took us six hours to drive here from St Emilion. The city is small, less than 10,000 folks. It’s in the Mediterranean zone, so it’s warmer here. They had over 3 inches of rain earlier this week so right now it’s very damp. The front of our townhouse, built in the 1700’s.
Uzes is a very, very old city, the Romans built it as they controlled the area from 100 BC until 300 AD or so. It was a textile production area, so it’s been wealthy for a long time. Now, tourism and wine making makeup the area’s economy.
One of the living areas and the kitchen of the townhouse. It’s five stories high. The townhouse has had many life’s. It’s even been an Inn back in the day😜Here’s the ancient staircase, made of limestone, like the home itself.
Ok, quick walking tour. I’m a little under the weather so it’s quick.
Eglise St. Étienne Inside the church. Only two church’s remain in Uzes, the rest were destroyed in one of the countless wars.City’s main square, this is filled several times a week for market days.Beautiful small city, with a true French feeling. Cindy and I love it here.Le Duche D’UzesThe backside of Le Duche. The Duke of Uzes resides here, his family is the second most famous family in Uzes. You know what happened to the first😳Uzes at night.Quiet and charming.Hotel De Ville, city hall.
Ok, it’s Saturday here, so it’s Market day, and we heard there’s a Christmas Market there starting tonight!😎
