11/25/22 Nerja and Ronda Spain

Malaga peninsula at sunrise

Greetings and Happy Holidays from the Costa del Sol!

The W sailing cruise ship, Malaga harbor

Tour guide Cindy and I have been busy here in the sunny, but windy south of Spain.

Cindy says we are going to take a road trip to Nerja, about an hour north on the Spanish coast. She says, let’s take a bus ride to avoid the hassle, ok say I. Easy bus ride through the coastal towns. Thousands and thousands of Condos. The Costa del Sol must be crazy in summer. It’s not very crowded now.

Balcony of Europe from the water.
Nerja was the site of many famous sea battles.
It’s a rock formation that juts out of the coastline.
Now it’s home to restaurants and hotels
Cute old town, not as upscale as Marbella.
Back in Malaga, the next day is Thanksgiving in the US, so we celebrated here in Spain. We treated ourselves to a delicious breakfast 😜
We decided that boiled shrimp would be delicious for dinner. Off to the market we go!
Beautiful sunny day in Malaga, no wind. Let’s walk the promenade and, 24,000 steps later, we need refreshments. The Spanish staple, beer, potato chips and green olives. Along with sea and sunshine.
Thanksgiving dinner, look at the size of that tomato.
Yesterday, tour guide Cindy says road-trip. We’re driving to Ronda, about 1 1/2 hours straight up into the mountains of Spain.
Cathedral of Ronda.
Bull fighting ring Ronda. Ronda has a very long history of war, Muslim and Christians fought here for years, as did the war lords from the area. This is one of the oldest bullfighting rings in Spain 1700s. How did Spain get all that money in the 1700s🤔
Ernest Hemingway and Orsen Wells both loved it here, and spent many summers in old town. It’s quite beautiful.
The real stars in Ronda are the view’s, El Tajo, beautiful.
El Tajo from the New Bridge.
View of the bridge from below, thanks to Cindy for hiking to the bottom. The new bridge was built in the 1700’s.

Old town Ronda
Beautiful hillsides.
We drove through Sierra de La Nieves National park. Notice the white villages in the hills. Beautiful place.

Ok, we’re here till Tuesday, then on to Valencia. I’m sure Cindy has plans for me😳

Adios Amigos, and Happy Holidays!

  1. Happy Thanksgiving from Eagle. I spent it in isolation as I came down with another breakthrough Covid again. ☹️ Doctor prescribe the cure so I am feeling much better finally. Still at least another day of isolation required. Before I got sick a friend and I booked a French river cruise for next May. It will be on the on the Rhône river traveling through Burgundy and Provence from Lyon to Avignon. So excited! Take care friends❤️
